Badminton Forehand smash | How to play Forehand smash
Forehand smash is the most attacking inner ralley shot with the ability to win out right or to force a weak reply. Aim of this smash is to move the shuttle to the opponent's floor as quickly as possible. If executed well it is probably the most difficult shot to return, just because of the pace and direction put on the shuttle. The downward angle of the shot is just as important as the speed it is hit at.
The smash is used when an opponent returns the shuttle high but short. The advantages of hitting a smash is that it gives an opponent very little time to react and return the shuttle, but if the shuttle is returned this then gives the smasher reduced time to prepare and set themselves for the next shot after hitting a smash. So it is important to choose the correct moment to unleash the smash, as hitting too many can also make a player tire quicker.
1. Position yourself behind and beneath the shuttle as it falls toward you from a high trajectory.
2. Step back with your racquet foot and point your non-racquet shoulder at your target.
3. Raise both your arms up just above shoulder height. Your non-racquet arm should be out in front of your for balance, with your racquet arm behind you and holding the racquet with a cocked wrist.
4. Shift most of your weight onto your back foot.
5. Swing through the shuttle with a straight arm, keeping your wrist cocked back.
6. Transfer your weight from your back foot to your front foot as you swing.
7. Snap your wrist to strike the shuttle.
8. Hit the shuttle while it is still above and in front of you.
9. Follow through, first with your wrist and then with your arm.
